My Grandmother was in pain and frightened. Cynthia's calming voice never changed during the three days she took care of my Grandmother.
My Grandmother, 98, fell and cracked her pelvis. She was admitted to the geriatric unit at the University of Texas Medical Branch for five days. For the first three days, Nurse Cynthia T. Reyes showed outstanding care for my Grandmother. She came into my Grandmother's room and introduced herself and explained the next steps in my Grandmother's care. Cynthia spoke to my Grandmother in such a way to give my Grandmother a sense of calmness and peace. My Grandmother was in pain and frightened. Cynthia's calming voice never changed during the three days she took care of my Grandmother.

Cynthia is very knowledgeable in her field in assisting the elderly she went above and beyond to ensure my Grandmother was as comfortable as she could be. Cynthia assisted the Patient Care Techs to position my Grandmother and change her. I made a comment about my Grandmother's hair. She had hit her head and had blood in her hair. Cynthia said I can help I'll wash her hair. Cynthia brought in a Ready Bath Cap to wash my Grandmother's hair. My Grandmother loved it! Again Cynthia's calming voice was the best for my Grandmother. If my Grandmother didn't understand or quite hear Cynthia she spoke right into my Grandmother's ear so she could hear her.

On day three I had plans to meet my husband, son, and Grandson for a birthday lunch. I mentioned it to Cynthia and he told me to leave when I needed to and she would ensure my Grandmother ate her lunch and she would check on her. My Grandmother has macular degeneration and has a hard time hearing. As soon as I had left the hospital the Doctor stopped in to see my Grandmother. Cynthia asked the Doctor to call me so that he could speak to me knowing my Grandmother would have a hard time hearing the Doctor. I'm so grateful to Cynthia for doing this. I'm thankful I was able to leave and enjoy my Grandson's birthday lunch. She not only helped my Grandmother but me as well.

Cynthia checked on my Grandmother constantly, she's a great nurse! Each evening before she left us she asked if my Grandmother needed anything else. Her care compassion and work ethic for her patients are tremendous. I believe it takes a special kind of person to be a Nurse and Cynthia Reyes is that person. UTMB is very fortunate to have her.
