Cindy is a nurse leader who demonstrates strong leadership skills, organization, and fairness to the staff. She goes way above her duties and responsibilities. She can fix or find solutions to our problems in the OR. I had scheduling issues, and she managed it quickly. We had some equipment malfunction, and she was able to borrow from our partner hospital. I nominate Cindy without any reservations.

As Cindy was completing nurse leader visits in ASU, a patient recognized Cindy immediately, which brought a wave of beautiful memories and emotions for patient S, his wife, and Cindy. A few years prior, S's son was in and out of Lake Wales hospital due to a complicated diagnosis of colon cancer. When he would come to ASU for his procedures, he was always hungry, and Cindy would go to the vending machine and bring him a Snickers bar. The family requested a picture with his favorite nurse, as she always went above and beyond to keep him comfortable during his procedures.

Fast forward to 2023, S came for eye surgery, and to his surprise, he was greeted by Cindy. They recognized each other, and they began sharing updates, including the unfortunate passing of their son. S pulled out his cell phone and shared the photo he still had saved of Cindy and his son. Cindy went to the vending machine to bring S a Snickers bar and a present from the gift shop. S and Cindy have remained in contact since the encounter as they share a beautiful memory they will continue to carry for years to come.

Observing Cindy during leader rounding is an inspirational part of my day. Cindy’s long-standing dedication to Lake Wales has clearly made her a beloved figure in the community. The fact that patients ask for her by name and take the time to show their appreciation with hugs speaks volumes about the positive impact she has had on their lives.

Cindy has a significant positive impact on not only the patients who come through surgical services but also the team she leads each day. Cindy’s servant leadership style where she’s always willing to pitch in and support her team, seems to inspire admiration and appreciation among her colleagues. Cindy’s versatility and willingness to assist whenever needed make her an invaluable asset, especially during critical moments such as turning over OR rooms, problem-solving staffing challenges, and keeping the team on schedule. Her readiness to lend a hand likely helps keep operations running smoothly and ensures patients receive the care they need promptly. Cindy's ability to provide quick problem-solving skills is undoubtedly what drives the team to succeed. The team will volunteer to fill gaps which fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and achievement among the team.

Through this successful leadership style, Cindy leads the surgery team; Cindy and two other colleagues are furthering their education with advanced nursing degrees. Her supportive presence and encouragement, especially before exams, have boosted their morale and motivation. Cheering them on demonstrates her commitment to their growth and success.

Her dedication, compassion, and the ability to make a positive difference in the community are commendable.
