Dadhi Dangal, RN
I am honored to recognize Dadhi Dangal, RN, BSN, for his extraordinary compassion, calm leadership, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. Dadhi embodies the Buckeye Values of Excellence, Compassion, Inclusion, Integrity, and Collaboration, and consistently demonstrates what it means to be an exceptional nurse at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
One moment in particular captures the depth of Dadhi’s character and the quality of his nursing practice. During a recent shift, he cared for a patient who was also a physician—an individual who, while knowledgeable, was highly anxious, stubborn, and determined to direct his own care. The room was tense; the patient’s frustration was rising, his voice was firm, and his family appeared overwhelmed and unsure. Many staff might have responded with urgency or frustration, but Dadhi became the calm in the storm.
He listened—truly listened—allowing the patient to fully express his concerns, preferences, and fears. He acknowledged the patient’s medical background with humility and respect, then carefully and compassionately explained the treatment plan in a way that restored understanding and trust. His presence shifted the entire atmosphere; the patient’s voice softened, his anxiety eased, and the family took a deep breath as reassurance washed over the room.
What could have escalated into conflict became a moment of healing because of Dadhi’s emotional intelligence, patience, and heart. He returned to the room multiple times to clarify information, answer questions, and anticipate needs before they arose. He did not simply carry out tasks—he rebuilt confidence, preserved dignity, and created psychological safety for both the patient and his family. The family later shared that they “finally felt safe” knowing Dadhi was advocating for their loved one.
His impact extended beyond the patient and family. Dadhi’s calm leadership grounded the entire team. Colleagues described feeling “supported,” “guided,” and “encouraged” because of his steady presence. His approach ensured clear communication, safer care delivery, and collaborative teamwork—values that are at the heart of OSU’s mission and culture. Regardless of workload or stress level, Dadhi consistently steps in without hesitation, uplifts staff with positivity, and supports workflow in ways that strengthen the unit as a whole.
Every day on PCU, Dadhi demonstrates clinical excellence rooted in profound humanity. He anticipates patient needs with precision, maintains meticulous attention to detail, and advocates relentlessly for safety and dignity. His compassion extends not only to patients, but to their families and his colleagues. He is the kind of nurse who changes the temperature of a room, the direction of a difficult moment, and the overall experience of care.
