During our baby "J's" stay at Sunrise NICU, Daija always went above and beyond in every possible way. She was not only an exceptional nurse; she was a true advocate for "J" and my family. In moments where we felt overwhelmed with the constant changes in our baby's health, Daija always stepped in with confidence, compassion, reassurance, and strength, always making sure our voices were heard.

In special moments, she always made it a priority to include us. From changing our first diaper and giving our first bath to learning how to take a temperature on a feisty preemie and showing us how to give hand hugs when that was all we could do in the beginning. Her kindness brought us so much comfort during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday always gave us some peace of mind just knowing that Daija would be the one taking care of "J."

In addition, Daija didn't just care for our baby; she cared for us as new parents who unexpectedly became parents sooner than expected, just as much as she did for "J." As a nursing student, she showed me what it means to be a great nurse. Her compassion, dedication, and advocacy have inspired me. I hope to be as great as she is one day.

She represents Sunrise Hospital so well; you guys should be so proud to have her. From the bottom of our hearts, we are forever grateful. She truly embodies what the DAISY Award represents.

Thank you, Daija, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
