It is clear that she demonstrates a honed commitment to the compassionate care of all clients and families that she encounters.
I have had the pleasure of instructing Daisie Kinnett for the past year in lecture, lab, and clinical. I believe that Daisie is a role model and would be an excellent recipient of The DAISY Award. Throughout the first semester of nursing school, Daisie overcame insurmountable odds, all while staying incredibly positive. Daisie is constantly a positive light to her instructors as well as her peers, even though she may be struggling.
In the clinical setting, Daisie is one to step up and always volunteer for a task when help is needed. Her clients speak highly of her and the connections that she builds with them. She has a personality that puts clients at ease when she walks into a room, knowing that they can build a trusting relationship with her. It is clear that she demonstrates a honed commitment to the compassionate care of all clients and families that she encounters.
Daisie is also determined. She is one of the most determined nursing students that I have ever met. While in her fundamentals course, she had a severe injury and underwent major surgery. She messaged me while in an ambulance en route to the hospital to tell me what was going on. Even while hospitalized, she remained in constant contact with her instructors and was determined not to fall behind in her studies. She even sent her mom back to Vincennes to retrieve her nursing textbooks for her when she was in the hospital. When she was able to return to school, she was on crutches and non-weight bearing for months. Even while she was undergoing this immense challenge, she was able to attend her lectures and complete all of her remaining lab time including checking off on a sterile foley catheter insertion while standing on one leg.
Daisie shows extreme dedication to this career field. Overcoming these trials will help Daisie to connect and empathize with her future clients. I strongly believe that she will be an amazing nurse. She is the epitome of a nursing role model, and I am pleased and honored to nominate her for the 2022 Student DAISY Award.
