Karen has spearheaded the DAISY Award at Sarasota Memorial Hospital since the program's inception in 2010. In this role, she has coordinated the nomination team and the many DAISY nominations that arrive every quarter. Karen is the cheerleader for the DAISY Award recognition at the unit level, seeing to every detail of the celebration! For the past 15 quarters, each DAISY award recipient has been surprised with the DAISY Award entourage that swoops into the nurse's unit, armed with Cinnabons, the Healer's Touch Scultpture, DAISY Award pins and very special accolades written by clinical nurses and physicians.
At every event, Karen is the photographer and later, the journalist who writes up each award for inclusion in our nursing newsletter, N2N. Photos are highlighted and Karen also coordinates the signing of the large DAISY banner, which resides in a glass case outside our cafeteria.
Sue Shkrab, Magnet Program Director said, "dedication like this is hard to find and we want to thank her and thank her again, for the joy, amazement, and yes, tears, the DAISY Award brings to each nurse recipient."
