I am submitting this daisy nomination for nurse Daisy Daplin at the request of one of our 5 South patients. The patient is unable to complete the online form due to physical limitations, however, has been on our unit for an extensive period (over 110 days). She has been intermittently intubated, on CRRT, and bedbound throughout her stay.

When I rounded on this patient, she immediately told me about her experience with Nurse Daisy. The patient described how distressing it was to be hospitalized for an extended period, particularly since she was unable to maintain her typical beauty and hair routine. She described the loss of "self" that she had being unable to wash her hair independently and use her home products. She also noted that having long hair while lying in bed had become burdensome due to knots and itching that she was unable to relieve due to weakness.

When Daisy took over as her nurse, the patient told me that she was excited to see a face that she knew and trusted. She told Daisy, "Please, help me cut this off". She said that Daisy talked with her about why she wanted to cut off her hair, and triple-checked that she truly wanted it cut. Daisy then spent time washing the patient's hair, detangling it with a comb and then used the disposable hospital clippers to help the patient cut her hair. The patient stated that "it was such a relief. I was able to feel the air on my scalp and the itching was completely gone. I hadn't felt that way in so long". She expressed to me that, throughout her hospitalization, Daisy has been a phenomenal nurse to her and frequently goes above and beyond in ways such as this to ensure she is comfortable. She complimented Daisy's skills both clinically and personally and said that she deserves to be recognized for her hard work.

This is just one of many patient and family compliments I have received for Daisy Daplin. She is very deserving of the DAISY Award, and I am honored to be able to submit her name on behalf of our patient.
