I'm so thankful that Daisy gave us the encouragement we needed to take that plunge and connect with our baby early.
Our daughter was born eleven weeks early, and admitted to Norton's NICU for 85 days. During this challenging period, my wife and I became familiar with many of the staff members, including Daisy. From the very beginning of this difficult time, Daisy consistently went above and beyond, demonstrating extraordinary compassion and professionalism. Daisy not only provided outstanding medical care but also offered my wife and me much-needed comfort and reassurance. Daisy was eager to give updates on our baby's condition and taught us many tips and tricks that my wife and I still use to this day!
While incubating, intubated, with lines, and hooked up to monitors... My wife and I were terrified to even hold our baby for almost two weeks. Daisy explained to us the importance of skin-to-skin contact, and when I said, "But we'll break her! She's too delicate!" Daisy reassured us and talked us through, clearly, every single step of picking up our daughter from the incubator so that my wife and I could share in this wonderful experience. When our baby was in the incubator, she looked more like a science experiment than a person. I'm so thankful that Daisy gave us the encouragement we needed to take that plunge and connect with our baby early.
While all the clinicians my wife and I interacted with at Norton were spectacular during our daughter's stay, Daisy was a breath of fresh air we needed. She blended nursing expertise with compassion. She certainly deserves the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
