Dallas was contacted to consult on an ED patient, who was known to her. The patient and family had many comorbidities and many ED visits due to infections. The living situation of the family consisted of no running water. Without proper home sanitation, this patient's condition would not improve. With the patient's permission, she applied for a bathroom project to be completed for the patient and family. Through NARI and Contractors Who Care program, they were able to provide the patient a new bathroom and clean living conditions, provide the family with a place to stay while it was being completed, and resources on how to keep a clean home and who to contact for repairs as well. Also, with the help of the community medic, the family will continue to be followed up on, through Alliance CARES program. Dallas was able to focus on basic needs, improving living and sanitation conditions to hopefully prevent readmissions for this patient and family. This relationship will also benefit future patients that need their services.
