Dan connected with his individual, truly provided compassionate care, and developed a trusting relationship with him.
We had a patient who presented extraordinary challenges for our Nursing staff on CV/PCU, Hospitalist, Psychiatry, Case Management, and Administration. All specialties worked diligently to get the much-needed resources and placement for this patient. His inpatient stay was extended multiple times due to his self-harming behavior. Dan connected with his individual, truly provided compassionate care, and developed a trusting relationship with him. This individual had been placed in restraints and had a 1:1 24/7 sitter to help keep him safe. Dan had honest and effective conversations with him that ultimately precipitated a safe and appropriate discharge. During this patient’s stay, Dan went above and beyond to seek resources, gain clarity, and interact and engage with specialists to help develop a plan. I personally believe Dan’s compassion and empathy contributed to this patient being in a better place emotionally and physically and having the ability to be discharged to his family. Dan is an excellent RN, and I am so proud to have witnessed his interaction with this patient. We are a better hospital because of Nurses like Dan.

Dan saved my mom’s life! My mom was admitted to the IMC/ICU floor because of his knowledge, critical thinking, and fast care. My mom was in IR getting a temporary pacer. Within minutes, she went into complete heart block, and he managed the whole department, got an EKG, the IR team, and a cardiologist before I could even comprehend what was going on.

After she had her temporary pacer placed, she was scheduled for a permanent one for later in the afternoon. Throughout the day, he kept coming to check up on my mom, checking her rhythm and making sure the pacer was working. While she was waiting for her permanent pacer, Dan allowed us to visit her and be at her bedside. He treated her and our family not just medically but holistically. His compassion for his patients and their families is amazing. He made sure my mom was getting treated medically and emotionally also. He allowed my mom to feel the love in the room from her family and to keep fighting. He allowed a very close-knit family to be even closer. He allowed compassion. He allowed love. Every time I look at my mom and her pacer, I think of Dan. Thank you for saving my mom, thank you for saving our family. She is our glue. You are an amazing nurse, but most importantly, you are a compassionate and kind person. Words cannot describe how grateful we are to you. Once again, THANK YOU!
