March 2018 Honoree
dan valino, RN
I've worked with Dan every Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and every year we gather patients in our dining room and do Christmas carols with them. This year was no different except he was pulled to another unit. So, when one of my patients was asking if the "piano man" was playing today, I had a hard time answering.
When I found out that he was canceled from his last four hours, I talked to him to see if he could do it before he went home. Without a second thought, he came after he finished working on the other unit and played Christmas carols for our patients, who were touched not only by his gesture but with his music.
It was also snowing outside, but it did not make him think to go home right away before the roads got bad.

Thank you, Dan, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
