Dana rose to the calling to serve every patient with compassion, dignity, and respect and spent 12 hours at the side of this patient
Dana embodies the qualities of a DAISY Nurse through the "outstanding, compassionate, nursing care they provide patients and families every day". Dana consistently goes above and beyond for our behavioral health patients. Here are some of the examples we have witnessed:

1. Dana used her expert soft skills to persuade a particularly challenging involuntary patient to allow her to clean his feet after over a month without any hygiene. This patient refused to bathe or shower, so Dana relentlessly encouraged the patient. Every day when in the assignment of this patient she would make this her individual goal, never giving up on the task and ultimately was able to get this patient to shower when multiple others could not.

2. In challenging situations when aggressive or assaultive behavior is present, Dana consistently steps up to lead the team and is the informal de-escalation leader on the team of nurses. On more than one occasion she has been witnessed de-escalating for multiple hours on aggravated patients and has without a doubt prevented harm to caregivers and harm to patients in the form of physical attacks.

3. Most recently, Dana volunteered to be the support person for an involuntary psychiatric pregnant patient during her day of labor. The patient has a particularly violent and traumatic past that has made other nurses fearful. Instead of trepidation, Dana rose to the calling to serve every patient with compassion, dignity, and respect and spent 12 hours at the side of this patient helping her navigate multiple units throughout the hospital in one of the most impactful days of her life. She is a true gem of a human being and we are so happy to work with you, you make the work a WAY better place. We are all inspired by YOU!
