January 2021 Honoree
Dana Jones 2021, RN
Dana Jones RN was working 3N unit and was providing nursing care to one of my most favorite patients. This geriatric patient was in poor condition and the family was aware of this. Due to the COVID visitor restrictions this patient's wife, son, and daughter could not visit for the "end of life" patient. As Dana and I were discussing the patient plan, Dana noted the cardiac changes occurring on the monitor and knew the patient would be passing quickly. Dana also knew the importance to this family of the patient "not passing" alone. Dana immediately donned PPE and literally ran to the room to ensure the patient would pass peacefully with his family participating in the death and dying process via zoom. Dana's compassion and empathy qualities that are important for the nursing profession were definitely "above and beyond". The patient did pass away as I said with an understanding and caring nurse at his side while his family said their final goodbyes.
Thank you, Dana, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
