December 2023 Honoree
Dana R Culbertson, BSN, RN
My nephew was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes and was transferred to 7C after a very scary two days in the ICU. He is a very active 10-year-old with autism, and because he is unable to express his needs and verbalize his pain, we, as a family are protective of his care. Dana was assigned to be his nurse on Sunday and was very compassionate, attentive, and welcoming. She made him and my entire family feel welcomed and comfortable. She was very patient with him and explained every detail of the care she was providing. Dana is an amazing nurse and took her time to explain, demonstrate, and educate my family about Carb-counting, insulin administration, and the importance of rotating the site for both fingerstick and insulin injection. She followed up with us on upcoming tests, listened to our concerns, and advocated with the primary care provider to ensure my nephew got everything he needed. Dana is a wonderful example of a dedicated nurse who enjoys her job and brings a little bit of joy to the people she takes care of. Thank you, Dana, for making my nephew’s stay on your unit an amazing one! We appreciate you!
Thank you, Dana R, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
