Dana has been a highly dedicated employee in our Emergency Department for the past 16 years. She uses her clinical expertise and skills to be a mentor to all staff members and students. Her expertise is often sought by many, including physicians. She builds such a good relationship with patients that they have even requested her to be their nurse on a return visit to our ED. Dana is also very attentive to the needs of our newly hired staff and will take the time to identify good learning opportunities that present throughout her shift. Recently, Dana has taken on additional responsibilities in the department by coordinating our departmental quality monitors and initiatives. This role requires collaboration with front line staff, physicians, and leadership for success. She monitors our results for trends and opportunities for improvement. She is proactive in providing 1:1 feedback to staff to ensure their understanding of specific quality measures. She provides this feedback in a respectful manner. Her efforts in this area ultimately have a positive impact on the care of our patients. Dana is also now participating in our patient follow-up program. She calls patients who have been discharged from our department to check on their condition and ensure that they will follow-up as instructed. During the calls, she takes the time to listen to any concerns the patient may have. She goes above and beyond to review discharge care and explains things so that the patient understands. When needed, she will collaborate with a physician in order to meet the needs of the patient.
