We recently had a disabled patient admitted to CVICU with a very grave prognosis. Her wheelchair bound husband accompanied her in the unit and the loving bond of this couple was undeniable. During Danette's daily rounds she discovered the husband had many personal stressors adding to his anxiety about his wife's illness. He hadn't eaten or showered in more than 24 hours, had no clean clothes and was worried about the state of their home should they be able to return. In her true caring spirit, Danette was able to arrange food, the ability to shower and clean clothes nearly immediately for this man. She also arranged funds for a service to clean the house and along with Case Management secured train fare when the patient was transferred to Denver.
Danette will tell you she was just doing her job but her true level of compassionate care and concern for the human spirit goes above and beyond the expected.
