I was extremely impressed with how Daniel managed two units while filling in as an interim manager. He did this through performance review season and fluctuating COVID census. He hired an emerging leader to take on the Orthopedics management role, his primary unit so that he could take on the needs of the pulmonary/renal unit. His actions demonstrate selflessness and a growth mindset for himself and his emerging leaders, not to mention the incredible amount of work and hours put into maintaining the two separate roles. Great work Daniel!

Daniel was an RN in Pulmonary/Renal and then became the manager of Orthopedics. He has done a great job as the manager of that unit. When the manager of Pulmonary / Renal left, the position was open for quite some time, and Daniel covered both. When someone in his department expressed interest in possibly becoming a manager, he encouraged her. She had only worked in orthopedics, so she didn't have the experience. Daniel, since he had experience in Pulmonary / Renal, offered to transfer to that unit to allow her to get promoted to Orthopedic manager, where she had experience. This is a great example of extraordinary leadership, and thinking more about the benefit of his staff, his patients, and Cottage Health vs. himself. I am sure he was very happy on Orthopedics and moving to another unit was a sacrifice. Daniel is a great example of what DAISY stands for, role-modeling extraordinary behavior.
