He was so kind, compassionate, and caring not only with our mother but with the families as well. He would always talk to our mom like she was his own family.
Our 87 year old mother S was admitted to Flagler and sadly passed away 28 days later. What is different from the sample nomination story is that we did not have the same nurse taking care of our mom every day. This is why this is so difficult nominating a particular nurse. Daniel, during the day shift, took care of our mother for the last 2 days of her life. It was so frightening to us all as we watched her struggle to live. Daniel eased our fears. He was so kind, compassionate, and caring not only with our mother but with the families as well. He would always talk to our mom like she was his own family. There was some confusion with hospice; so Daniel made sure he got clarification and explained all the details to us. Daniel made sure at all times that our mother was comfortable, as he knew she was struggling. He knew our mother wanted to live; we wanted her to live. Sadly her body was weak and could not win the fight. We first met Daniel the day before Mama passed and we were so impressed with his mannerism. My sister and I asked each other how come we never had him before. I received a call on the 29th from Daniel that Mama didn't want dialysis anymore and that she was depending more and more on bipap for air. He called down to security in the ER to let us come early. We rushed there and we were relieved to know that Daniel was Mama's nurse for the day. We never knew from one day to the next who Mama would get. Daniel's shift ended before Mama passed. We, as a family, nominate Daniel in MICU as an Extraordinary Nurse. He went beyond the normal call of duty. Thank you, Daniel.
