Mr. Genstler is new to the surgical ICU setting and was assigned to a critically ill young mother. Her family came to visit including her young toddler who was only 3 years old. Upon seeing his mother, he was frightened. Genstler kneeled down at eye level with the boy and holds his hand reassuring him, "Mom's okay." The child wants to get in bed with her - but this was not possible with the tubes and lines. So, he lifts the boy and holds him for several minutes while he calms down then leans the child over the rail to kiss momma. It was a tender moment to witness. I have this as a memory and see him demonstrate the same kindness and compassion every shift I work with him.

This has been emotionally draining with my father being sick. It's such a sensitive time. Daniel has been very caring for my father as his patient. We have felt so much comfort having him as our nurse. Daniel is always at eyesight and helpful. He took care of my dad as if he was family. We would not have been able to get through these past few days without Daniel. His smile will heal a million souls. We thank him for all his care and hard work.

My experience as a family member has been so grateful! It's very hard to see a loved one in pain and it's harder when the loved one is given poor treatment. My father fell. This was his second fall and a bad one at that. He is 82 but mentally a 20-year-old that thinks he can do anything.
With that being said, we have had a few trips to the ER. In the past, he was known to rip out IV's and literally try to walk out and leave in the middle of his care. This trip was different, he has been listening and relaxed, he seems to want to receive the care. I know it's because of Danny and the staff. He tells me, "That's a nice boy," every time Danny walks out and is so thankful for his care. I also along with family give you many thanks for doing the best!
