Dan is caring and compassionate. He's the ultimate team player. Each patient/family IS the center of his care.
Dan was nominated by the wife of his patient. "I would like to commend Dan Joost, my husband's nurse, for his stay in ICU after heart surgery. Dan demonstrated outstanding nursing skills. I feel that he went above and beyond what was required. Below are some examples:
When my husband first got into the ICU room, Dan took the time to described what each machine was and what the normal ranges were.
Every time Dan was going to do something, he would explain what it was and how important it was.
He questioned my husband about his pain level in detail and then laid out a plan on how he was going to control it.
When Dan was going on breaks or lunch he would make sure all his medicines were up to date and would let him know when he would be back.
He was a very motivated individual and very positive. He was patient and would take the time to listen and explain.
Dan exhibited team skills by assisting his co-workers when he could.
Dan takes personal pride in his job. Much of a speedy recovery is the environment in which the patient is in. Dan was able to reduce our anxiety and stress and make us feel comfortable.
Although you might say this is the expectation of Beaumont Hospital, Dan went way over the expectation in excellent communication and education of the family, while demonstrating consistent use of his nursing care and excellent knowledge.
