Daniel said to D, this is from J, and he started to rub D’s head. D sat up in bed and gave Daniel the best little smile.
Daniel was my husband D's 2nd shift ICU nurse. Daniel went above and beyond in many ways. He was one of my lifelines to D. Daniel called me many times. Daniel would tell me how his nurses would massage D for blood circulation and that they would also talk to him. 'We always say, J's outside, even though you aren't, because we wanted D to know you were near, all the time.'
One day Daniel asked me a couple of questions. When you and D are together what do you do to show your affection to each other? What kind of music do you two like to listen to when you're together? I told Daniel that I would reach over and rub D's head as an "I love you"… and our favorite song is Groovy Kind of Love from Phil Collins.
A couple of days later Daniel called me back and told me that he and another nurse were giving D a massage while playing Groovy Kind of Love over his phone. Daniel said to D, this is from J, and he started to rub D's head. D sat up in bed and gave Daniel the best little smile.
This is what makes Beebe so different and so very special. It is everyone's deep, genuine compassion for their patients and their families. Everyone very routinely asked me, "How are you doing J?" You're not going to get that in a big city hospital. You just aren't! I firmly believe that D is here today because of the excellent care and incredible compassion WE both received at Beebe Healthcare.
