Danny Schroeder's contributions to improving outcomes for patients flown to Children's by our flight team cannot be understated. The projects he's led have significantly improved the timing of our flight nurses and improved the care of some of the most critical patients brought to our hospital.
Over the last year, Danny had been instrumental in driving initiatives that have significantly improved the quality of care provided by out pediatric flight team and made a significant contribution to the safety of our providers and the patients they serve.

Some examples of projects Danny has led:

Danny has made major improvements to the initial orientation of the team's pediatric flight nurses.  Under Danny's guidance, the "SkyBear Ground School' as it is known, has expanded from a relatively ad hoc single day consisting mostly of didactic material to a teo-day event incorporating classroom sessions, hands-on training in the aircraft and real-time simulations of care scenarios flight orientees might face.  The enhanced ground school program has resulted in improved performance of our flight nurse candidates throughout their training and led to faster integration of these new flight nurses into the air medical environment.

Another project Danny has led has been the development of staff into flight team "super users."  The project has trained experienced flight providers to be resources to newer staff across a broad spectrum of topics.  Danny has also trained super users to be subject matter experts on specific areas of concern and expert trainers on certain pieces of equipment that are infrequently used but can be critical when needed.

Danny has also spearheaded a program to continue the development of new pediatric flight nurses beyond their initial orientation.  The Flight Team First Year Passport program provides a series of milestones for novice flight providers to move through during their first year after orientation. This program culminates in the new provider presenting a case review- including lessons learned that are directly applicable to the Children's Hospital's flight program- of an air medical incident to the entire flight team.  This program has helped expand the knowledge base of our team as well as improved the continued development of flight nursing staff.

Finally, Danny took the lead in producing the training video operations of a backup aircraft that our team might utilize from time to time.  This aircraft is different from our primary aircraft, and configuring it for certain missions is a complicated task that is done infrequently.  Danny produced this video so that it could be used a resource to provide in-time refresher for our flight team when called upon to use this aircraft.  This video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLEMJUd9kM.

In summation, Danny Schroeder's contributions to improving outcomes for patients flown to Children's by our flight team cannot be understated. The projects he's led have significantly improved the timing of our flight nurses and improved the care of some of the most critical patients brought to our hospital.
