I met Dan yesterday. He was my nurse; I had been on day release and had been provisionally told an MRI I had was clear; it wasn't. Dan introduced himself, explained his role and took time to alleviate my fears and arrange for someone to talk to me. Later that day he spoke to my family and ensured all that could be done was. He explained or assisted with all tasks and ensured they were completed.
Dan arranged for a referral to a Macmillan Pain person and explained this. He sat in on two consultant chats and ensured I understood and was listened to. The following day Dan continued in the excellent care he had begun. He again perused referrals and sat in on discussions ensuring I was happy, I understood and felt listened to.
The news was good. Dan continued to support me throughout the day ensuring pain management - understanding and empathy. He made me feel special, important and gave me a voice.
