By taking the time to understand, empathize, and listen to a patient with a diagnosis of dementia who was misunderstood by many staff members as being aggressive, Daniel demonstrated unwavering integrity. He earned the patient's trust, leading to successful medication compliance and a significant improvement in the patient's well-being and overall condition.
Commitment: Daniel exemplifies commitment by serving Veterans and their families in alignment with the VA's mission. He volunteered to care for the patient over a period of 4 days straight, ensuring continuity of care and stability, which were crucial for the patient's condition. His dedication went beyond normal duty, showcasing his commitment to the highest standards of nursing care.
Advocacy: Daniel truly focuses on serving the Veteran. During shift hand-off, he ensured that the incoming staff was fully informed about the patient's situation, emphasizing that the patient was not violent but rather agitated due to his condition. He also communicated the specific interventions that helped support the patient's well-being. This advocacy helped prevent misunderstandings and ensured that the patient received appropriate and compassionate care from all staff members
