She stayed to comfort the wife and to be a reassuring presence helping to navigate what to do next for the family. I get teary-eyed thinking about how sweet she was with the family.
Daniela is an exceptional nurse and brings credence to the credentials of being an RN. She showed uncommon compassion and love to an elderly gentleman who was initially delivered some bad news and a poor prognosis. Although I am unable to name names, this man truly lived up to his last name and was the sweetest person I have ever met. The first interaction where I became aware of Daniela’s compassion was when she texted me asking me to go down to the gift shop and get him a card and a stuffed animal. I was curious, but I obliged. When I had a free second, I rushed down, got him a squeeze toy, and went up to his room in the ICU. He had no clue who I was but was so kind and appreciative. Daniela was set on paying me back, but I told her seeing his face and meeting him was payment enough. Dani, as I affectionately call her, continued to show up and show out for this lovely gentleman and his wife. The most memorable and final time was the day that the patient started deteriorating. She had developed such a close bond with the family and the patient that they wanted to keep her updated even on her day off. I called her knowing she would be heartbroken, and even though she lived in Orlando, and it was her day off, she ANSWERED. She was in the middle of getting her nails done but answered, and the next thing I knew, she was walking into his room. The look on the patient's face and his wife's face was priceless. It was bittersweet but knowing she was there, brought them peace. She stayed the rest of the day until he passed away and then helped me perform post-mortem care. She stayed to comfort the wife and to be a reassuring presence helping to navigate what to do next for the family. I get teary-eyed thinking about how sweet she was with the family. I am blessed to know this young lady, and the profession is blessed to have her in it.
