I wholeheartedly nominate Daniella for the DAISY Award for her compassion, altruism, and selfless nature. I recently was fortunate to work alongside Daniella during a particularly hectic shift. One of our patients was experiencing confusion & mental decline that caused him to become agitated and aggressive with his parents and staff. When it came to the point of needing restraints to keep the patient and others safe, the patient began asking for Daniella by name. I should add, Daniella was not this patient’s nurse that night. As soon as she entered the room, he calmed down immediately at just the sight of her. She walked right over to his bedside, took his hand, and reassured him that he was safe. She was able to soothe him in a way that no one else had been able to, including his parents. What I witnessed was a bond and trust between the two of them that was very special. It illuminated what an amazing and devoted nurse Daniella is, especially during difficult assignments, and that her kindhearted demeanor shines in her interactions and relationships with patients, families, and her coworkers.
