Danielle was our primary night nurse when we were in the PICU. Our son was in the PICU off and on for 4 months until he passed away earlier this year. Danielle was kind, compassionate and caring towards our son, me, my husband, and our extended family when they visited. She fought for my son to make sure he was well taken care of. If she believed he needed something she would talk to the doctors right away and keep talking to them until our son got what he needed. She got to know me and my husband and understood what we wanted for our son and would speak up when we were unsure of things. She made sure we understood what the doctor's plans were for our son. Our son was non-verbal and most of the time was intubated while in the PICU, but she talked to him like he was a healthy normal kid. She would explain what she was doing/giving him, asked him how his days were and treated him as if she had known him for years! When we had Danielle at night, we slept better than other nights because we knew our son was in extraordinary hands and we could rest easy (well, as easy as you can in a hospital). She was on top of it when his IV would be close to beeping and be there so the beeping and alarms didn't wake usup. If his monitor would sound, she was there within seconds checking on him making sure everything was okay. Towards the end of my son's life, she was very compassionate to us and would take time to sit and talk with us about how we were doing with things and how she could help. 2 days before our son passed away, we got moved up to the 8th floor, Danielle made it a point to come visit before her shift to check on our son and us and see how we were doing. We have met many amazing nurses at the children's hospital, but Danielle is one we will never forget. She truly is an amazing nurse and person.
