She took over an hour with my daughter to sit there with her, listen to her, and tell her that everything was going to be OK.
I will forever be grateful to Danielle, the nurse at Advocate Children’s Hospital, Park Ridge. She went above and beyond to comfort my daughter during our stay.
When Danielle was introduced as our nurse, I took a minute to explain to her that my daughter suffers from severe anxiety, so some things are a little hard for her. Not even two minutes later, I saw Danielle sitting with my daughter, explaining to her that she, too, suffers from an anxiety disorder and that she feels the same things that my daughter does. She let her know how to cope with stuff, what she used to do to overcome her anxiety, what things helped her, and that it’s OK to not be OK sometimes. She took over an hour with my daughter to sit there with her, listen to her, and tell her that everything was going to be OK. Assured her that her anxiety was going to be OK, and ways to overcome it.
I was amazed that she shared her story with my daughter, a complete stranger, just to make her feel better. After talking with Danielle, the smile on my daughter’s face showed the impact that Danielle made on her, and I haven’t seen that smile/reaction in the six days that she’s been sick.
I want to thank Danielle for taking the time and telling us her story and letting my daughter know that she’s not alone! Thank you, Danielle, for a great bedside manner, for restoring my faith in ACH that they do care about their patients. Being a nurse is definitely your calling!
