My 19-year-old son was a lifelong patient of 2B. He underwent end-of-life care on the unit for a little over a month. He was able to make his wishes known about where and how he wanted to spend his final days. Through his end-of-life process, Danielle was frequently requested to be his nurse. She not only provided exceptional care but also made sure some fond memories were made along the way. Designing my son tee-shirts, Sushi lunch dates, and gift shop shopping sprees- just to name a few. Through this emotional journey, Danielle was also concerned about me. We joked that I also became her patient. Our comfort was vitally important to her. She recognized symptoms of discomfort and provided measures for symptom alleviation. She even checked in on her days off. Danielle became like family. We always looked forward to seeing her. As he got closer toward his transition, he became less responsive, but he would still appear comforted by her presence and sound. Danielle's dedication and passion left a lasting impression on us. Lastly, I would be remiss to recognize the whole 2B team. Together, they collaborated to optimize comfort and our family's understanding and adaption.
