She is very policy driven. Together with a co-worker, they created the "Tip Sheet" which has the most useful policies nurses need every shift.
Danielle exemplifies what it means to be an excellent leader. She starts the day making sure staff assignments are appropriately balanced, our unit is organized, supplies are adequate (including COVID supplies), and rooms are ready for any kind of admission. The beginning of the shift is the busiest and she can handle any problems that are thrown her way. She refers to hospital policy to properly address these situations. She is very policy driven. Together with a co-worker, they created the "Tip Sheet" which has the most useful policies nurses need every shift.
One issue Danielle quickly resolved was with a patient who needed to change their pharmacy to ensure she would receive her medications, take medications, take them as prescribed, and not miss any doses. She utilized her resources to appropriately advocate and help this patient, the patient was able to pick up her medications on her way home with everything she needed.
She excels in patient advocacy, especially with Covid patients who can't have visitors. She also advocates for her staff. During our Covid surge, our unit held higher acuity patients that prior to COVID were not admitted to our floor. She would address and clarify patient placement to ensure both the staff and patient(s) would receive the necessary level of care. She also would raise concerns about inadequate staffing, such as asking for 12-hour resources, sitters, and RN/PCT staff as appropriate to situations. This is very helpful in providing safe patient care.
She is a knowledgeable and patient educator. She educates our unit in its entirety. Whether orienting charge nurses, travelers, new floats (especially hard during covid), and guiding new grads to become their best selves. Danielle's approach to educating is very effective because she always has a template for you to look back on which I find very useful. When I train a new grad, I refer them to this "Tip Sheet" right away because of its resourcefulness and because it allows its users to be independent and confident in their care. She trained me to be an MT and relief charge as well. She has been someone I truly depend on and I know I am not the only one. At the end of every shift, you can anticipate she will follow up on the patients and on your day so that she may address any issues before she passes them on to the next shift. I am thankful for having someone who has my back throughout the shift.
