Over the last couple of weeks, Danielle has been one of the nurses taking care of a young, vulnerable patient suffering from complications of a recent cancer diagnosis. The patient, unfortunately, took a sharp decline early on in his admission and was requiring multiple forms of life support. Despite the support that we provided, it was not enough to save his life and the prognosis was poor. The patient would soon be leaving behind his beloved 8-year-old daughter at such a young age.

With this in mind, Danielle collaborated with another one of his primary nurses to put together a special build-a-bear keepsake for the patient's daughter. This was not your normal Build-A-Bear. This bear was equipped with a hand-recorded heartbeat during his final hours with us. ,This gesture goes above and beyond what we are expected to do as nurses and thanks to Danielle and other collaborators, the patient's heart will beat on!
