Danielle works on a floor where a team effort is essential. There are often many admissions and discharges coming in rapidly and if you don't get help from your co-workers, things will rapidly become overwhelming. I am a float RN and have been floating to this floor for almost 8 years. Danielle has 100% of the time always been happy to jump up and pitch in. The goal is to safely and efficiently admit all these patients and it is always easier when she is working.
I am on a shared governance council and am always looking for ideas on how to improve workflow related to charting. Danielle is a wonderful person to bounce ideas off of. A lot of nurses don't want to be bothered with questions about performance improvement on their downtime at work, but Danielle is always willing to listen and consistently has good ideas. Danielle has been on her unit for years so she has seen many new employees, many of them newly graduated RNs, come to the floor scared and unsure of themselves. Danielle is a fantastic RN with top-notch clinical skills and critical thinking skills that she uses to mentor and assist these new employees. In doing so, she is not only helping the new nurse and his/her patient that day, but also so many future patients because she is helping her coworker to become a better clinician.
Danielle works in a cardiac area and I know that she goes to a local annual cardiac conference every year so that she is able to expand her cardiac knowledge and stay up-to-date on current evidence. Danielle uses this information to be sure her unit is running as best as possible and she shares information with coworkers to help share knowledge. Danielle is a Clinician level 1 which is a voluntary program that recognizes nurses who demonstrate exemplary professional practice. As I mentioned before, I have been floating to Danielle's unit for nearly 8 years and have never heard her say anything inappropriate or mean-spirited. Danielle is honest as well as trustworthy. If I had a family member at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, I would want Danielle to take care of my family. I respect Danielle. She is an asset to the organization and she deserves to be recognized.
