Danielle demonstrated excellence in nursing care- attending to my dad's wounds with tenderness, skill and attentiveness.
Danielle was the RN for my Dad for 3 dayshifts. My 86-year-old dad is blind in one eye and has profound hearing loss (limited even with hearing aids). My Dad has a diagnosis of colon cancer and had surgery in March and was transferred to the 6th floor.
Danielle was so very respectful of my Dad's special needs and concerns. Since he could only see out of his right eye, she was ALWAYS careful to approach him from his right side and position herself for teaching and "walks" on the right side (not his left "blind side"). She spoke loudly, clearly, and slowly so he could hear and understand her (staff wearing masks was hard for my dad because he supplemented his hearing with lip-reading).
She demonstrated excellence in nursing care- attending to my dad's wounds with tenderness, skill and attentiveness. She was so helpful when I asked for lab results- she would immediately review them while in the room and relay the results and the implications, then calling the doctor for clarification if I had any questions. She was an advocate for my dad when we noted there were some orders missing or incomplete. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and made my dad laugh out loud a few times (clearly having bonded with him enough to know HIS sense of humor!).
When my dad had a particularly rough night, she came in and sat and listened to his complaints. She told him she would always treat him like she would want her own family cared for by the nurse. And she really did care for him like he was HER dad.... she was patient and kind and thoughtful in anticipating his needs. We really trusted her. She responded quickly when he asked for help and waiting patiently while he "finished his business".
My dad cried when he left the hospital, he was so grateful for his care. And I noted that she shed a few tears as well. It makes me cry just to write that! Danielle helped my dad's experience at Bergan Mercy a good one, and his recovery was augmented by her care. Thank you, Danielle, for your excellent nursing care.
