Danilo is a bright and intelligent nurse on the RSU unit. He quickly introduced himself and nothing was too much trouble to ask. When family or friends didn’t visit he was keen to ask where they were and ensure that I was indeed okay. His common phrase to me was ‘E be careful, take it easy’ and he only wanted for me to get better but in the safest way possible. I watched Dan specifically with one lady who had been in hospital for some time, her name was R and her family didn’t always manage to come and see her until the evening. Due to R being rather elderly, she required some additional help, especially with her eating, Dan came into the situation like he did with everything, with a smile and sang her name sweetly each morning and fed her breakfast, lunch, or dinner calmly and quietly. I watched him care for her like it was his own grandmother and it was really inspiring to see. Dan is attentive, kind-hearted, and nurturing - never misses a beat and is a great asset to the RSU team. He truly deserves to be recognised. Dan really opened my eyes to how fantastic our nurses and the NHS are. I couldn’t have survived my journey in hospital without him.
