When I try to put into words what my nurse did for me, I can’t. You see, I had depression, and I shut down from my babies. My nurse made sure that she made time for me and talked to me about my worries and fears. When I stayed behind the curtain in my room, she would keep checking in with me to be sure I was okay, and she wouldn’t take no for an answer. I don’t ever tell people I need help, and I don’t have much family support. I’ve always been taught that I need to do everything myself. I didn’t know that I could trust someone to help me. She helped me feel more confident with my babies. She helped me set a plan. I want to do something with my life.

This nurse is more than just a nurse. She is like an angel. Of course, she loves the babies; everyone loves the babies, and many times we know that people judge us. She never judged me; just told me I needed to bond more. She made sure that I was the first person to bathe my babies and made sure that my boyfriend was there, and it helped him get close to the babies too.

This nurse made me feel like I have hope and I can get help if I ask. I was even able to talk to people in social services at the hospital as well as talk about postpartum depression. I feel like I have more of a plan now, and my nurse also made sure I wanted to take care of the babies.

I can’t tell you in words how I feel to be able to feel strong mother skills. She even supported me in bringing my older daughter to visit and bond with the babies as well. She seems to really care. I am going to be going home soon with my babies, but I will never forget her. She was an angel, and I was so lucky to have her as a nurse.
