My mom had surgery for a mastectomy with the lymph nodes bypass. Our OR nurse, Dannette, understood this is the first time my mom underwent surgery. The computers in the waiting room were not operating so we were unable to receive updates electronically. However, Dannette was gracious enough to text us every hour with updates on the progression of mom's surgery. She kept our mind at ease by keeping us informed and ensuring us that mom was doing great.
Dannette's shift ended at 5pm. She came into the waiting room after her shift and sat with us for an hour. It was so nice to have someone care so much about their patient that they are willing to sit with the family. She shared more about the procedure details and gave us an estimated time for surgery to end.
The next day my mom experienced a complication called a leaker. She had to go back in for surgery. As they were prepping her for the second time, Dannette found out and stopped by to check on her. Later that day when finishing her shift, she stopped by mom's hospital room to check on her. She was excited to see that my mom was doing much better once the leaker was taken care of. Dannette exemplified being an OR nurse by following through with her patients in a manner that we can never repay her.
