Besides always asking patients the extra questions that make a difference to our routine nurse visits, his triage skills show excellent clinical decision making, compassion, and attention to detail. The example of note recently was a patient who had her long-term psychiatric medications changed due to toxicity from them, became destabilized as a result, and became a difficult person to manage by phone due to anger, progressing depression, and psychosis. Daniel took one of her calls, managed her anger crisis well, got to the heart of her suicidality, kept her on the phone while he called in 911, and kept her on the line until a safe hand-off was accomplished. She was admitted for severe depression and I think he saved her life. The story is dramatic, but he delivers this level of care for every patient, every day. Thank you, Danny!
