Danyell is clear about her expectations to always hold the patients' well-being at the center of what we do.
Danyell exemplifies all of the qualities of a DAISY Nurse Leader. She took the position as our director in the Family Birthing Center during a time of transition and has provided us with support, stability, and a much-needed improvement to the culture of our unit. She treats everyone fairly, with respect, and consistency. She leads not only with her words but with her actions as an example. She has stepped up in difficult situations, such as during COVID surges and natural disasters, modeling a positive attitude and a selfless spirit. She serves our community through volunteering and has encouraged her team to do the same alongside her. She is clear about her expectations to always hold the patients' well-being at the center of what we do. The questions “How will this affect our patients?” and “Is this what is best for our patients?” are always discussed when making changes or decisions on our unit. She motivates people to do more than just what is required of them, by extending her support, encouragement, recognition, and gratitude.
On a more personal note, Danyell has changed the way I view what a leader is and what kind of a leader I want to be. She constantly pushes me out of my comfort zone, no matter how much I may try to resist, so that I may grow and develop professionally. She not only provides me with guidance when it is needed but she teaches me so that I am self-reliant and so that I may help others. She shows her support and care for me, not only as an employee but as a human being. She motivates me to do my best because I want to make sure that I am a reflection of what a great job she is doing. We are so blessed to have Danyell as the leader of our team and as a leader in our hospital.
