I am writing to nominate Daphne Gawchua, a dedicated nurse in the SICU, in recognition of her outstanding contributions and exemplary commitment to patient care. Throughout her tenure in the SICU, Daphne has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care possible. Her passion for patient advocacy and her tireless efforts to promote excellence in patient care make her an invaluable asset to our team. One of Daphne's remarkable qualities is her experience with Epic software, which she utilizes to streamline documentation processes, enhance communication among interdisciplinary team members, and facilitate seamless coordination of care for our patients. Her proficiency with Epic not only benefits her own practice but also serves as a valuable resource for her peers and other members of the healthcare team. Furthermore, Daphne's expert knowledge of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) has been instrumental in optimizing care for our critically ill patients. Her proficiency in managing CRRT treatments reflects her dedication to staying at the forefront of evidence-based practices. Daphne's willingness to share her knowledge and support her colleagues reflects her commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Daphne's exemplary work ethic and passion for quality patient care have not gone unnoticed by her peers and other disciplines. Her colleagues consistently praise her professionalism, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence. I wholeheartedly believe that Daphne Gawchua is deserving of recognition for her exceptional contributions to patient care in the SICU. It is with great pleasure that I nominate Ms. Daphne Gawchua, RN of our Level 1 SICU for the DAISY Award. For many years, she has consistently managed numerous complex and challenging situations. Daphne is perpetually calm, organized, and professional and communicates effectively. She is steadily motivated, conscientious, and a diligent worker who remains enthusiastic and dependable. As the head nurse of the SICU, she demonstrates excellent clinical and analytical skills. She goes above and beyond for her staff and patients. Daphne provides optimal care to all her patients to ensure positive outcomes. Ms. Gawchua is a genuine role model to everyone. She is proficient at advanced therapies (e.g. CRRT, Flow Tract, Level I warmer, Epic documentation, and chart reviews) and serves as a resource person for the ICU team. Notably, Daphne cared for the very first COVID patient and was never apprehensive about it. She is often the first to volunteer to engage in care for the most critically ill patients. Daphne's desire to learn is impressive. She is always willing to share information with others, thereby creating a stronger team. In addition to her intellect and exemplary performances, Ms. Gawchua is a provocative educator who inspires others to become curious to conduct further independent research. She is an active participant in the Critical Care Shared Governance Council. Daphne is flexible and eager to work on any project presented to her. She is a champion for performance improvement of Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries, CLABSI, and CAUTI. This is an individual who is truly committed and dedicated to Kings County’s mission on providing exceptional healthcare delivery. Daphne Gawchua is truly an OUTSTANDING critical care nurse who helps strengthen the foundation for efficiency and solidify teamwork.
