Daphne is aware of each of the patients in our unit and the capabilities and experience level of each staff member. This allows her the opportunity to anticipate the needs of co-workers, patients and families. She definitely is an example to each of us. She follows proper procedures and works as a team player. She approaches her work with enthusiasm and with a positive attitude while providing safe, quality patient care, never swaying from kindness, caring and professionalism. Always goes into the room addressing the patients respectfully, by their name, and with proper introduction of her role. She readily answers all call lights of every patient, does not wait to see if another nurse is going to answer it first. She pitches right in to help others without hesitation and does not wait to be asked.

One night when I was just starting a blood transfusion on a patient, another patient of mine called and he had just spilled his urinal in the bed. (He already had a stage II ulcer). Daphne immediately saw that I could not be in both places at once, she just started assisting with the vitals and patient assessment of the blood transfusion, and this allowed the blood transfusion to be started efficiently, safely and in a timely fashion while following proper protocol. It also allowed the opportunity for my other patient to be cleaned up quickly preventing further compromise to his already impaired skin integrity.

I remember one time she went to the store after her shift and bought a pair of sandals for a patient that did not have shoes. This nurse holds herself up to high standards and views her assistance to others as "just what I should be doing". I don't think I have ever heard her say a negative word about anyone or anything. She consistently looks at situations and points out the positive aspects of change and new ideas to all of us.

Daphne is an active member of the Diabetes Resource committee and the Professional Practice committee; she keeps our unit updated on all meetings and is available for questions.
