Darcy was caring for a patient who was intubated due to anoxic brain injury. The patient's next of kin was his 18-year-old son, who had every reason to have some psychosocial issues and substance decency. Darcy had a heart-to-heart with the son, including that he needed to get help for his drug problem. One night when the son was sleeping Darcy saw how tattered the son's shoes were; she looked at what size he wore and came back the next day with some new shoes for him.
