New anti-clotting medication proved too effective in my case and my total knee replacement continued to bleed. This necessitated re-opening of the wound to clean it and once again being placed under general anesthesia. Following closure of the wound, the team noticed my blood pressure reaching 200. This apparently triggered some alarms and I was sent to ICU for observation. My level of comfort being far from what I had hoped, and I was in need of some TLC. As the night wore on I became aware of a talented nurse named Darcy. She worked with me as they scanned my head and later an ultrasound of my heart. This was a very painful period for me. Darcy coaxed me along with encouragement and reassurance until I was returned to the Ortho unit once again.

On my last night in the hospital Darcy signed in as the RN and asked if I remembered her from the ICU. She said she was a floater and worked in several areas when needed. It was comforting to have her helping once again. She asked if there was anything she could do to make my night more comfortable. As I hadn't had a shower since my arrival I said I could sure use one. She said once she had the other patients comfortable for the night she would return. A shower seemed so simple but was so appreciated and topped off the many kind attributes she willingly shared to make my recovery as pleasant as possible. An RN who granted this patient with needed care and a touch of class. Thank you Darcy.
