My stepdad has been in Orlando Health for 10 days now. The nurses here are incredible. I told all of them that I could never do their job.

There is one nurse in particular who is my stepdad's favorite, and that is Dee Dee. Whenever I show up and see her, I know that my stepdad is getting special attention. Tonight, she left the room for a few minutes and on her way out said that she would be back soon after she checked on her other patients. I was momentarily confused because she always makes us feel like he is her only patient.

Dee Dee is always doting on him like he is her own father. She knows exactly what he likes (vanilla drinks) and what he does not like (strawberry). She knows that he loves tomato soup and does not like ground chicken. She knows when he is in pain to the point where she contacts the doctor for a different dose of pain medicine.

Most of all, she knows when to encourage him and love on him, and never once have I ever felt put out by asking for something. My mom has dementia and cannot be with us in the hospital and having Dee Dee here is like having family help us
