At the time I transferred to the orthopedic unit from the South Peninsula hospital to the ICU & then from the ICU to the orthopedic unit, I was very sick. Darsey worked hard with two different student nurses to help me with little but important things. For example, she removed the central line skillfully. She removed the foley. She changed the bandages at several surgical sites. She even applied the pink foam to both of my heel areas. She administered medicine to me in a timely and scheduled basis. She was personable yet professional and modeled and educated the student nurses in an encouraging and meaningful way. I noticed Darsey employed these same compassionate manners with all the patients I heard her interact with; she was kind and attentive to everyone. I definitely turned a corner in my recovery after a horrific car accident after I was able to be Darsey’s patient for several consecutive shifts. Please consider Darsey Plourde for the DAISY Award.
