Dauda Collier, BSN, RN

A patient was admitted for what we knew as necrotizing fasciitis. In the morning the patient rang out to the nurse that she was in pain. The nurse assessed her and let her know when she would be able to get her next dose of pain medication.  Shortly after, the patient called out again that she was in pain but felt she was having contractions. The primary nurse called out to our charge for the night, Dauda Collier. He immediately went into action. He called the MD, Rapid Response, and the AC. The staff came together to see how they could assist this mother until help arrived. This baby girl wasn’t willing to wait. As the baby was coming out, they noticed the cord was wrapped around the neck of the baby. Dauda was able to safely lift the cord over the babies’ head and pull the baby out. They placed the baby on the mom’s chest as it began to cry. There were lots of tears and celebration.
