July 2018 Honoree
dave remington, RN, BSN
We have a patient who is homeless, indigent and does not have the mental capacity to properly take care of himself. The patient needed basic/fundamental things that we take for granted: ie: clothes, shoes, and clean underwear. The hospital gave the patient clothes, but Dave took it upon himself to go buy this patient a new pair of shoes and clean underwear. I know it may not seem like much, but this is so much deeper than material possessions. Dave went above and beyond to provide support and compassion to a human being who has not experienced much kindness in the world, and in turn, showed the patient there are good people in this world. I am so proud to work alongside such a wonderful nurse and human being. He would also tell you, "I am just doing my job, nothing special." Dave is also a nurse who has been on our team for 10 years and is a main preceptor on the night shift. I am so thankful for this as Dave can pass along his extensive knowledge, compassion, and empathy to the new generation of nurses.
Thank you, Dave, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
