The compassion and attentiveness that David showed helped us tremendously.
When our family member came to Hock, it was with the understanding that it would only be a few days and then he would go home. His condition worsened, quickly, and the realization was that he would not come home. I honestly can't understand how all the nurses at Hospice deal with this impending demise for all (or most) of their patients; however, David had that extra something that I just can't describe to make my family and I feel special and give us the extra attention that we needed during this time. He would listen and be there for us and we never felt like just another number. The compassion and attentiveness that he showed helped us tremendously. We had never heard the story about the cardinal, and he told us that when that cardinal appeared in our darkest moments, it gave us hope that our family member would be taken care of. David always said or did the right thing at the right time. I've blocked a lot of details out of memory, but for me to sit here and tell you how it helped my family and me is a testament that he left a lasting impression on us. My daughter is a nurse in New Jersey and she is a "hard grader" and told me that there are not many nurses like David, and she was honored to meet him. Our family thanks David from the bottom of our hearts. We will never forget him.
