David just seemed to know when dad was about at the end of his rope and about ready to walk out, and there he appeared to talk my dad down and convince him to stay.
I just had to take a moment to tell you about the extraordinary care my dad received from David back at the beginning of the year. Mom was going through some paperwork and came across this nomination form, and right away we both started talking about David and the amazing job he did.
My dad was very begrudgingly admitted to the hospital for what we all thought to be a stroke. It took a lot of convincing to get him to stay the night and get the tests he needed done the next day. Needless to say, as soon as he woke up he was ready to leave. The hospital was very full as I recall, and David was in and out of the room about every thirty minutes. He would update us every time he came in the room about this result or that, or when the next test might get done. He just seemed to know when dad was about at the end of his rope and about ready to walk out, and there he appeared to talk my dad down and convince him to stay. It was finally late afternoon when the MRI came back and indeed showed that he had a stroke. Thank goodness for David getting my dad to stay, and get those results, and be sent home with the medicine he needed. I hate to think what may have happened had he just left without knowing and not getting on his blood thinner right away.
Additionally, and this may seem like a little thing, but it was huge to us and my dad. My dad is a very proud man who struggles with incontinence issues. He gets very upset when he has an accident and does his best to hide it. He wears adult pull-on briefs at home, and when he needed a new one, all that you had were the ones with the tabs that look like diapers. My dad flat out refused to wear it and he was actually dressed and ready to walk out when David came in and asked my dad to give him some time to come up with something better. Not ten minutes later David walked in with a pull-on brief I believe he had gotten from your emergency room. That simplest of things I think meant the most to my dad. It let him keep his dignity and we can't thank David enough for that and everything he did that day for our dad.
