Dave did this in a kind, nonjudgemental, compassionate, non-condescending way. Dave always made him feel like he was on his side, working for him, helping him.
Dave eased my Dad's mind about a lot of things that led him to this stay. My dad has a reoccurrence of colon cancer, fluid around the lungs, fluid in the stomach, and A-Fib. Dave helped my dad understand what was happening by explaining what the doctors were saying, why things were happening, and why my dad needed to wait for x, y, and z. Dave did this in a kind, nonjudgemental, compassionate, non-condescending way. Dave always made him feel like he was on his side, working for him, helping him. My dad is a planner, and when things don't go as planned, he wants to know why and what to do about it. Dave helped my Dad through all of this so that his mind understood it all.

My father was admitted with suspected internal bleeding. Being a former engineer, he is very anxious about staying informed. David was not only extremely knowledgeable but was very patient when answering his questions. He was very thorough when it came to the multiple blood transfusions needed. He even went so far as to stay later than his shift to assist with his transfusion. He gave my father his time and, most importantly, a better sense of control by sharing knowledge with him. We are very grateful for his time, attentiveness, and compassion in ensuring my Dad received the transfusions safely. David stressed to my father and his family members that his job was to support my dad, the patient. He reassured us that he was there if the patient had questions about what a doctor had chatted with him about or if he had a concern or questions about the plan of action or care. Being that my father has been sleep-deprived for over a week due to his health struggles, this was very reassuring for us since the lack of sleep made him fuzzy or foggy. I know and feel that Dave truly cares and advocates for his patient's welfare.
