David showed concern about my condition during my ER visit. He took his work seriously but had time to make me laugh. He explained everything he did and the tests that were ordered. He also answered all my questions in language I could understand. He is a wonderful addition to your staff. He is someone I would like to meet at every hospital. He helped me feel better just by coming into the room.

Extraordinary service. Introduced himself when he entered the room. Provided constant service and assurance.

There are so many examples every day in which I see him living the ICARE values. He interacts with a diverse group of patients each day and somehow connects with each and every one of them. I'm not talking about just being polite, his patients really leave thinking, "Wow, someone really cared." I have watched him connect with the aggressive, the lonely, the abusive, and the abused. My conclusion is the reason he can display such respect and compassion is because he faces the world without judgment. He never makes assumptions or creates opinions about patients or peers. He never engages in gossip and he never seems to be in a bad mood. His on-stage performance is top notch because it is not a performance at all. He is the genuine ICARE article.
I will share a first-hand story from a patient. "I had been in the emergency department overnight. I was exhausted and was really working with the staff hard because I was sick to my stomach and had to use the bedside commode a lot. Throughout the night everyone was nice, but I just got the sense that I was annoying them. Then came David. He inherited me at shift change after I had a huge accident spilling the contents of my bedside commode everywhere, on myself, all over the floor. I was so embarrassed that I tried to clean everything up on my own. Here I am, a grown woman covered in mess and this poor guy has to deal with this right when he walks into work. He came in and I could tell immediately that everything was going to be ok. He made me feel like he dealt with this kind of issue routinely and I had nothing to be embarrassed about. He cleaned me up without hesitation and I could feel his kindness and compassion in every word and action. He was my angel that morning. He is very special and I thank God for people like him."

He was a very special nurse. He had to draw blood and do other nurses' duties while my sister was in the ER.
